Step-1: Gather the required ingredients
- Paint brush
- 3/8-inch paint roller cover
- Roller tray
- Latex primer
- Moisture-resistant paint or varnish (that is labeled 100% capable of providing water-resistant protection)
Step-2: Prepare the MDF
The first thing you need to do is thoroughly clean the MDF board to waterproof it.
Take a clean wet rag and wipe the surface of the board thoroughly with the rag. make sure there is no debris left on it before you move on to the next step.
Step-3: Apply Primer to The Surface
The medium-density fiberboard is now ready for waterproofing. At this stage, shake up the sealer or primer and pour it into a paint tray as needed. Take a 3/8 inch roller, and dip the roller into the tray.
This time coat the board with the roller. Apply an even coat of primer to the board. Pay special attention to edges, notches, and screw holes. Use a paint brush to apply the primer to the edges. Make sure the entire MDF is covered with primer.
Follow the manufacturer’s instructions for drying the primer, but generally, the primer will take 4-6 hours to dry.
Before proceeding to the next step, make the paint brush and roller suitable for paint application by washing them thoroughly.
Step-4: Apply Paint to The Board
Take water-resistant paint and paint the MDF edge with a paint roller. Just the way you applied the primer to it. apply paint to each corner of the board with a paintbrush.
You will need to apply one more coat of MDF, so let the first coat dry well. Usually, the paint takes 4-5 hours to dry.
Now when the board is dry apply another coat of paint. This will make your MDF more moisture-resistant.
Step-5: Dry the Fiberboard Thoroughly
At this stage, the board should be thoroughly dried to make it suitable for outdoor use. we recommend you apply multiple coats of paint, mainly to make it highly moisture-resistant.
